G1 Crews (2000-2003)

Tech Deck Dudes and their releases are organized a variety of ways. The most prominent is the "Crews."

X- Concepts released 15 different crews, where the vast majority of TDD's made their debuts. In other words, you are basically looking at each dude's first variant. Each crew consists of 6 dudes, with the lone exception being Crew 1. Sporting 12 dudes, one could assume that the original intention was for each crew to yield 12. Dudes within crews often share a similar look, and often share exact paint colors. I will dive deeper below, but the reason for this is primarily centered around efficiency and convenience during manufacture.

Crew 1 consists of (from left to right) Lenny, Petey, Shik, Nick, Stevie J., Crash, Tank, Flake, Spin, Zobo, Tek, and Bruce. Every dude in the crew comes with a "peg" skateboard with wheels that do NOT roll. Crew 1 is kind of the baseline for the TDD collection.
Crew 1. (2000) Note: Shik appears on card-backs of Crew 1 figures, but wasn't released officially until Crew 3.

Crew 2 consists of Tiki, Billy, Dr. Digit P.I., Rozz, Mikey, and Fletcher.
Note: Mikey was taken off the G1 numbering system (#1-88) and didn't resurface until "G3" where he was given #117.
Crew 2 (2000)

Crew 3 consists of Julio, Super Finger, Sumo San, Shik (for real this time), Slam, and Fu Man Finger.
Crew 3 (2000)

Crew 4 consists of Booger, Cosmo, Norman, Manga, Tag, and Phinger Tut.
Interestingly, this crew highlights Tag and Phinger Tut, who would both somewhat disappear from the collection. Tech Deck released a massive poster promoting "G1" TDDs which excluded both. While Tag was never numbered and never seen again, Phinger Tut resurfaced in G3/2005, where he was given #119.
Crew 4 (2001). This crew was the first to represent solely magnetic dudes.

Crew 5 consists of Fred, Duke, Bonz, Rusty, Rap Masta Thumb, and Woody. Crew 5 is the first crew to really highlight color consistency. As you can see, the main colors represented are brown, black, white, and red. Within the collection, there are many shades of many colors. However, in this Crew, it is clear that Rusty's hair is the exact color of Duke's hat. The blue on each of their respective glasses is also the same, while everyone besides Duke shares the same shade of red.
Crew 5 (2001)

Crew 6 consists of Draco, Sergei, Dakota, Homer, Al Pine, and Ace. Not only are colors repeated within the crew, but we also come across some design consistencies. While Ace and Dakota have the same pair of shoes on, the light pink laces are shared by Homer and Al Pine. Sergei, Dakota, Draco, and Homer all share a bluish gray that had yet to be seen within the collection.
Crew 6 (2001)

Crew 7 consists of Sludge, Frank N. Finger, John, Roger, Scott, and Syd. Representing the first decline in quality (in my qualified yet subjective opinion), we are bombarded with an uncanny lack of creativity. While Crew 7 is still strong, it's hard to ignore the shoes of John, Frank, Roger, and Syd. Did they all go to Payless and pick out the same shoe? Sludge and Frank share the same shade of blue, while everyone besides Frank yields at least a touch of red.
Crew 7 (2002)

Crew 8 consists of Laverne, Eddie, Laura, Rick, Rasta, and Ronin. If Crew 7 was any foreshadowed indication, Crew 8 really took the baton and sprinted. For the first time, we get a look at 2 mediocre "dudettes" and a few mediocre dudes. (I'll let you decide who) For the first time, we are introduced to a "cheese" orange color that Rick, Rasta, and Ronin share.
Crew 8 (2002)

Crew 9 consists of Yoko, Donnie, Billy, Bull, Erik, and Reginald. Perhaps picking up a little slack and providing a little variation, Crew 9 does a fairly good job introducing new styles and feels to the collection. There isn't much detectible laziness within this crew, especially when you consider the intricacies of Bull.
Crew 9 (2002)

Crew 10 consists of Andie, Barney, Stevie J., Simon, Art, and Natalie. Andddddd....back down we go. Crew 10 is defined by a new tannish skin-tone and a narrow frame. Besides Barney, the dudes in this crew seem to have thinner bodies and shoes...and relatively weak magnets...like they really don't stick to their boards like they used to.
Crew 10 (2002)

Crew 11 consists of Billy, Pierce, Petey, Dave, Willie, and Barbie. Like Crew 10, Crew 9 is definable by the same tan skin tone. Still rather tiny, the dudes in this crew also fail to leave a lasting impression. Crew 11 also blesses us with terrible magnets, leaving collectors concerned about the toy line.
Crew 11 (2002)

Crew 12 consists of Suzy, Big E, Crystal, Splinter, Candie, and E.N. Stein. Although slightly underwhelming, FINALLY, the dudes stick to their boards again. Crew 12 is defined by pastel/almost Easter-colored dudes. Never before had we seen the pink that Candie and Splinter share.
Crew 12 (2002)

Crew 13 consists of Mort, Helen, Brad, Sven, Jack, and Rex. Just in time, TDD's were saved by a solid crew 13. Although the collection would never see the quality that the first 6 crews provided, Brad and Jack became staples of the collection. A new rusty red color is shared by Helen, Brad, Rex, and Sven.
Crew 13 (2002)

Crew 14 consists of Henry, Larry, Arnie, Ralph, Chuy, and Adam. Another somewhat head-scratching crew, 3 of 6 would be held to only one variant within "G1" Sharing dark blue is Larry, Chuy, and fan-favorite Adam, who would go on to be one of the more collectible figures in "G1." Personally, I can't help but notice that he has the identical body and feet as Jack in Crew 13.
Crew 14 (2002)

Crew 15 consists of Timbo, Whitney, L.A. Rock, Cutie, Minga, and Fuse. Stylistically, I feel this was the biggest change that "G1" ever saw or would see. Fuse and Timbo have much thicker eyebrows, becoming a TDD staple in later generations. Each dude besides Minga is wearing big puffy shoes with big puffy laces, much like the D.C./Vans/Etnies shoes that were popular at the time. That cheese orange color is back, gracing 4 of 6. In my opinion, Crew 15 was the strongest release since Crew 7. Crew 15 was the final crew and the only one with a 2003 copyright on their backs. This is because Evolution line (G2) dudes were on the horizon. Sadly, this also made these figures short-lived, with only Timbo getting a second variant in a playset.
