#005 - Stevie J.

Stevie J. is one of 3 dudes to have multiple "G1" molds, the others being Billy and Petey. The need for such confusion is beyond me, as some of the reissues look entirely different than their predecessors. In my opinion, they should have chosen between A.) Not redesigning any dudes within the same generation, or B.) renaming the reissue as an entirely different dude.
  • Stevie J. (1) looks like a generic finger with dreds. He is African American, unfortunately, Black, Latino, Asian, and Native American dudes were not that common in the original toy line. Likewise, those that were an ethnic minority (in America) were usually not just a dude. Rather, they tended to be stereotyped. (ex: Fu-Man the Kung Fu sensei in a conical hat/sugegasa, Stevie J the rapper, Rasta the Rastafarian, Bull wearing a feather on his head and moccasins).
  • There was maybe 3 dudes in G1 who were black, pretty low considering this was an American toy line which in G1 had 90 figures. There's more robot G1 figures to put this into context...
  • This version of Stevie J. has 5 variants.

Original Crew 1 plug-feet version (2000)
Single pack variant #2, now with magnetic feet (2001)

JcPenney 3-Pack variant, came with Flake & Fletcher (2001)

Single Pack Variant #3 (2001-02)

Single Pack variant #4 (2001-02)
Re-used in the Talk Back single packs

  • Stevie J. (G1, Version 2) is seen with cornrows, a bandana, and holds a microphone (like the other rapper TDD, Rap Masta Thumb).
  •  Some may confuse them, but here's a simple answer: Rap Masta Thumb is the white rapper, while Stevie J was a black rapper. This version of Stevie J. also has 5 variants.

Crew 10 Single Pack (Main Variant) (2002)
Crew 10 Single Pack (second variant) (2002)

Stair & Rail Shuffle Playset Variant (2002)

3-Pack variant (came with Simon & Big E) (2002)

This variant of Stevie J. is sneaky rare. (2002)
He was re-used with added arms in Evolution Crew 4, as you'll down in G3 below.

G2 Stevie J

Dragstrip Race Set Exclusive Mold/Variant (2003)

G3 Stevie J

G3 Stevie J is just his G1 second mold with bendy arms added on each side, one of which grips the microphone that was just glued to the side of his G1 mold.
Evolution Crew 4 Single Pack Variant (2004)

Toys R Us 6-Pack Variant (2005)

Blastboard Series 2 variant (with an exclusive purple board)  (2005)

The second G3 Stevie J was a bald taller version in Evolution Crew 5, this is the only time I saw a dude get two molds, just one crew after the other in the same year. The above Crew 4 mold and this Crew 5 mold are both on the back of a 2005 Toys R Us 6-Pack, but in separate packs.

Evolution Crew 5 Variant #1 (2004)
(the main version on cards and bio).

Evolution Crew 5 Variant # 2 (2004)
(The most common version, since the secondary variants were ironically the ones repackaged for Evolution Crew 5 dudes).

Evolution Crew 5 Variant #3 (2004)
Hardest of the three to come by.

Toys R Us 6-Pack Variant (2005)
Stevie J's pack came with hip-hop/urban-themed dudes (Rap Masta Thumb the Eminem mold, Chuy a tatted Mexican Homie mold, LA Rock an 80's B-Boy in a Kangol, Fuse the DJ, and Rasta).
